Best Motorcycle Routes in Tenerife — The Ultimate Rider's Guide
Tenerife is one of Europe's best-kept secrets for motorcycle riding. Year-round sunshine, dramatic mountain roads and an island compact enough to explore in a single day make it a dream destination for bikers.
1. Teide National Park Loop — The Classic
The most iconic route on the island. Starting from Puerto de la Cruz, head south through La Orotava and climb into the Teide National Park. The road winds through ancient lava fields, pine forests and alien-like volcanic landscapes as you gain altitude to over 2,000m. Stop at the Roque de García viewpoint for jaw-dropping photos of the Teide crater, then descend via Vilaflor — the highest village in Spain — back to the south coast. Distance: ~120 km. Best time: morning, to beat the clouds.
2. Masca Canyon Road — The Thrill
The TF-436 road to Masca village is legendary among motorcyclists. A series of tight hairpin bends carved into the Teno massif cliffs, with sheer drops and panoramic views of the Atlantic. The village of Masca itself sits at 650m altitude surrounded by dramatic gorges. Ride carefully — the road is narrow — but the reward is one of the most spectacular motorcycle experiences in Europe.
3. Anaga Rural Park — The Jungle Road
The northeastern corner of Tenerife hides ancient laurel forests that feel nothing like the rest of the island. The TF-12 through Anaga passes through tunnels of giant trees draped in moss, with mist rolling across the mountain tops. Stop at Cruz del Carmen viewpoint for panoramic views of both the north coast and Santa Cruz. Cooler and greener than anywhere else on the island.
4. The South Coast — La Caleta to Los Gigantes
For those who prefer coast over mountains, the southwest coast road delivers spectacular sea views and the famous Los Gigantes cliffs — 600m vertical rock faces dropping straight into the Atlantic. Stop at the small fishing village of La Caleta for fresh seafood, then continue north past the cliffs to the peaceful town of Los Gigantes.
Practical Tips
Always carry a jacket — temperatures at altitude can be 10°C cooler than the coast. Fuel stations are scarce in the Teide park, so fill up before heading up. The TF-21 (main Teide road) can have traffic on weekends — weekday mornings are best. Bonjour Tours team will give you a personalised route map when you collect your bike.
